Regatta Tee - Finished

I didn't quite make the deadline for the TTTKal hosted by Very Shannon but here is my finished Regatta Tee.  I wasn't planning on making this in May but then when I saw the KAL on Very Shannon's blog I decided to join in.  Blog reading can really throw my knitting plans out of order.  I did 2 KAL's in May that I had no intention of doing.

I love it!  I can see myself wearing it with a skirt or jeans and getting lots of use out of it this summer.

"Mommy, I want pink socks!"

I went to yarn store today to get 2 balls of grey Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino to give me enough yarn to re-make a tee for myself. I came out with this much.
My son got a hold of one of the grey balls already "sigh" untangling in my future

Claire, my 3 year old daughter, took one look around the store and said "Mommy, I want pink socks.  Can you make me pink socks?"  She then went and found every pink yarn in the store.  I found the sock yarn section and started looking.  The first pink yarn she found was Manos del Uraguay!  @ $25 a skein.  NOT HAPPENING!  I steered her towards the Sock It Too Me Yarn.  Rainbow coloured but with pink in it.
I figure I can make a small pair for her and some ankle socks for myself.  Yeah 2 for 1! But my daughter is a bad influence on me.

Then when we went to pay I was seduced by a sample knit.  It's a shawl/scarf/wrap thing, called the Striped Trap.  It's so fun!

It starts with a small number of stitches stitches.  You increase 1 stitch every few rows and stop when you run out of yarn.  The main colour is used for a few rows and the the contrast colour is used for another few rows and then you switch again.

All stockinette so boring but easy to do without thinking.  It will take me a while but I figure I'll finish when the weather is cold and be able to wear it right away!

So I learned in May that even though I have projects planned I am easily distracted by other knitting projects and lots of household projects.

I'm almost finished my Regatta Tee for the TTTKal . . . . it was supposed to be done yesterday but I had a pounding headache.  I'll show you by the end of the week.

Anyone else have an accidental stash building shopping trip this week?

Not Much Knitting

The weather here in Ontario has finally gotten beautiful and warm.  I'm spending so much time outside with my kids. With the warmer weather comes deck weather and BBQ time.  Our deck is in such bad shape that we've been working on giving it a mini-makeover  . . .because we can't afford to replace it. We've been in our house 6 years and the balcony is about 12 years old and the lower deck over 20 years old.

Here's what it looked like before:

Faded, ripped cushions that get dripping wet with the slightest bit of rain.

Phase 1: Replace rotting stairs with narrower set and put in a railing section and make new cushion covers

New Steps and Railing

New, clean cushion covers that are water resistant!

I think I need to sit out there right now!

Now I have a nice place to sit and knit out my yard.  The next phase of the deck makeover is to put a baby gate up and fix the entryway into the house and the BBQ area.  Followed by a complete paint job to minimize the chances of slivers.

I'm working slowly on Regatta Tee.  I've finished the front and \I'm working on the back but I won't be finished by the end of the knit-along.

#tttkal - Tops, tanks and tees knit along

I've immediately joined another knit along.  The Tops, Tanks and Tees knit along hosted by Very Shannon.

I already had this in my queue to knit and it also uses up another stash yarn.  All of a sudden I don't feel like knitting another sweater or socks as we've just started to have warmer weather here in Canada.

The pattern I picked is the Regatta Tee from Interweave Knits, Summer 2013

So far I've got this much done on the back.  My kind of knit.  Easy knitting for the most part but enough of a pattern to the knitting that makes it interesting.  The colour changes are very motivating since it is about an inch between each brown stripe so it feels progress is going so fast.  Then at the top I get to knit a beautiful lace pattern!

But  I am not finding as much time to knit as I normally do since we've been doing some DIY projects around the house and garden.  I'll put up some pictures of those soon.
