I used this free pattern, called Fairisle Anything Cowl on Ravelry. There is no gauge listed in the pattern but I used 4 mm needles and a worsted/aran weight yarn and my gauge was 7 sts/inch.
It fits perfectly under my coat as a neckwarmer.
The grey I used is leftover Graphite Tanis Fiber Arts Yarn Green Label
Aran weight. The self striping yarn is a Noro Silk Garden leftover from
a vest I made my daughter.
Perfect for a Canadian winter. My mom likes it so much that she's asked me for one . . . and she hardly ever wears anything handknit. Have you knit anything warm recently?

Are you a Cowl Girl?
Are you a scarf or cowl person? I've just come to the realization that I'm more of a cowl girl. I wear scarves but I wear cowls more. Cowls stay in place. There's no ends to come loose and droop down into my kid's artwork/food/random mess. When I'm working I teach Kindergarten . . . definitely no dangly pieces of clothing there.
I've had this scarf for quite a while and I've worn it in the winter as an outdoor scarf in November and March but then didn't really get much use out of it. So I decided to stitch the ends together to make a cowl.
Another thing I realized . . . I never blocked it! Here it is blocking.
Pattern: Wakefield Scarf (free pattern)
Yarn: I have no idea, some sort of wool with a tiny bit of silk. Something that matched the gauge suggested.
I love it! Now I wear it all the time, sometimes as an outdoor scarf and sometimes as an accessory. What do you prefer scarves or cowls?

Shallows Cowl and Knit Along
I joined a knit along at Leighside Knits . I love how thoughtful each of Leigh's posts whether she's writing about knitting or anything else.
Leigh asked each knitter involved several questions, about knitting and very thought provoking questions. You can read my answers and those of the other knitters here
Pattern: Shallows Cowl by Bonnie Sennott
Yarn: unknown white yarn, maybe acrylic/wool blend?
Needles: 3.75 mm
The suggested patterns for the yarn-along were by Bonnie Sennott. I took a look through the patterns and loved the Shallows Cowl.
It was a quick and easy knit. I like the lace pattern followed by patches of stockinette. It will be perfect for a little bit more warmth on these spring days or with a dress in the summer.
Thanks Leigh for hosting such a thoughtful knit along.
